Nupa Agarwal, J.D.

Nupa Agarwal, J.D., joined the MCV Foundation board in 2023. She is the lead attorney with The Agarwal Law Firm, a Richmond law firm she founded in 2004. With more than 15 years of experience practicing law and running a business, Nupa decided to focus her practice on Virginia bankruptcy law to make a direct impact in the day-to-day lives of her Richmond neighbors.

Nupa is an enthusiastic supporter of non-profits and community-oriented organizations. Nupa has served on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Richmond, Virginia League for Planned Parenthood and The READ Center. Currently, she serves as vice chair of Economic Development Authority for the City of Richmond, as a member the board of directors for VPM, and on the Canvas Advisory Committee at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. She was co-founder and is a current board member of the American India Foundation Richmond Chapter. She is also a supporter of Stop Child Abuse Now and Fit for Kids.

Nupa earned a degree in sociology from Randolph-Macon College where she also minored in political science and classical studies. In her last year of college, she attended the Semester at Sea Program where she spent a semester traveling to 15 countries around the world learning about their culture and political structure. She went on to law school and earned a Juris Doctorate from the Mississippi College School of Law. While attending law school, Nupa also received a Master of Science in sociology from Mississippi College where she specialized in cultural anthropology.

Following law school, Nupa spent three years as a law clerk at the Mississippi Court of Appeals under Chief Judge William G. Bridges before returning to Virginia to be closer to her family. Nupa worked as staff attorney for the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry where she worked on various labor and employment issues including wage and hour violations, workplace discrimination and harassment. She also worked as a Staff Attorney and Legislative Liaison at the Department of Correctional Education, where she received her Senior Professional Human Resource Manager certification and worked with the General Assembly on legislative issues. She was later an associate at Main Street Law firm specializing in bankruptcy before opening her own practice.
